Getting a couch out without wrecking your walls

Furniture is our most common call, and the difference between a ten minute pickup and an hour of wrestling is almost always the path out of the room.

Measure the tightest point on the path

People measure the doorway and forget the hallway turn, the stair landing, or the light fixture at the bottom of the steps. Walk the route the piece has to travel and find the narrowest spot on it.

Take five minutes of prep

• Pull cushions and remove the legs, which often buys the inch you need.
• Pop the door off its hinges rather than forcing the frame.
• Clear the hall of shoes, rugs, and anything that slides underfoot.
• Old towels on wall corners save a drywall repair.

Mattresses are their own thing

Mattresses and box springs are awkward rather than heavy, and they do not belong in a regular trash bin. They also carry a disposal fee at the transfer station, which we will quote you before pickup.

When to just call

If the piece is going down stairs, if you are moving it alone, or if your back has opinions about it, let us do the lifting. Two people who move furniture regularly is cheaper than a drywall patch or a hurt shoulder.
